$10,000.00 for Soca Monarch Winner – Patch Booked as Guest Artiste

Basseterre, St Kitts – In a year when sponsorship is hard to come by, the National Carnival Committee has again shown its commitment for developing vital areas of Sugar Mas’. This view was supported when National Carnival Committee Deputy Chair, Shannon Hawley revealed the cash prize of EC$10,000.00 for the winner of the Beaumont Park Soca Monarch.

This impressive announcement was made during the final planning meeting held at the Carnival Secretariat on November 23. The show which is slated for December 18 at the Football Stadium forms part of the revamped program for the Carnival season.

Twenty-five (25) Soca Artistes have so far registered for the revived Beaumont Park Soca Monarch competition for 2010/2011. The headliners include Shaki, Anastasia, X-Man Mr. World, Ras Kelly, Smilie, Rucas, Hotrod, Jeezy, Soca Samuel, Lord Kut, Big Edwards, Eazi, and Foxy.

Twelve (12) finalists would be selected by a panel of four judges during the week of November 26-30. The National Carnival Committee continues to accept the CD submissions from all competing artistes until registration closes November 26. The names of the finalists would be announced at a Press Conference on November 30.

Regional soca sensation Patch would headline the show with his mega hit, “Pipe”. He has stated his extraordinary joy of coming to St Kitts Nevis to perform for the first time. Patch is a very successful artiste and intends on sharing some of his experience with the local acts as they start the journey of perfecting the soca genre.

Patch is one of Trinidad’s most versatile artist, singing soca, and most recently soca chutney. He started singing in 1999 with a monster hit called “Comess”. Success followed success with “Macomere”, “Misbehavin”,”De Tail Gone”, “Calling me Name”, and for 2009 “Rum and Roti”.

Patch hails from deep South Trinidad, and is a prolific writer, penning songs for artist such as Byron Lee (Love how you wining), Singing Sandra (Keep the faith), Kurt Allen (Bumper Sticker), Oscar B and Leon Coldero to name a few.
