33rd Youth Summer Camp 2016 officially open

(ZIZ News) — Over 200 children will make the Beach Allen Primary School their home for the next two weeks during The Department of Youth’s Summer Camp.

While addressing the campers, Senior Youth Officer and Camp Director, Pierre Liburd spoke on the purpose of the camp.

“We believe that you could develop into productive, successful citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis. You could be a director of camp, you could be a director of youth empowerment, an advisor to the Permanent Secretary or whatever you see fit”, the Director said.

Special Advisor in The Ministry of Youth, Vernon Conner encouraged the children to make the most of their time at the camp.

“For many of you, whether you were sent or sentenced here by your parents, it may be a sacrifice. But for many others of you this will be a very great adventure. I pray that by the time we come to the end of this camp, after two weeks, all of you can say that Summer Camp 33 was a beautiful adventure”, he stated.

This year the camp will focus on the business development programme which is designed to enlighten all campers on the buying and selling of goods/services.

The summer camp will also include a Talent Show, Sports Day, A Gospel Night, Karaoke and field trips to several organisations.

The children, aged eight to sixteen, will be engaged in various exercises including Music, Spanish, Football, Arts and Craft, Videography, Drumming and Leadership.

The theme for this year’s Youth Summer Camp is “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work”.
