36 poles now light Kim Collins Highway

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, OCTOBER 1ST 2012 (CUOPM) – The Kim Collins Highway is now lighted through solar energy.

Some 36 metal poles have been installed along the route as a result of financing by the Republic of China (Taiwan) in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and the St. Kitts Electricity Corporation (SKELEC).

Poles are now been erected on that stretch of The financial donation from Taiwan will go toward the financing of the ground works for the solar lighting of the Kim Collins Highway and that stretch of road from the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) eastwards to the Sugar’s Complex.

“As St. Kitts and Nevis continues the march to become one of the first entirely green-energy country, we will be able in the process to not only improve the quality of life for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, but we would be able to a large extent reduce the enormous expenditure that the government continues to expend on a regular basis for the electrification of the various parts of the country,” said Prime Minister the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas in a recent statement.
