Antigua and Barbuda, Venezuela share long history with St. Kitts and Nevis

Basseterre, St. Kitts (CUOPM) — The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the State of Antigua and Barbuda have joined regional and world leaders in congratulating St. Kitts and Nevis on the 31st Anniversary of Independence.

In his congratulatory message since taking office, Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister, the Hon. Gaston Browne encouraged the people of St. Kitts and Nevis “to reflect on the significance of their national pride, for it is this unwavering spirit of national pride that has assisted their pursuit and various achievements thus far.”

Prime Minister said St. Kitts and Nevis and Antigua and Barbados share a long history of friendly and brotherly relations.

“We collaborate regionally on several important areas, including combating climate change and the natural disasters which plague our countries as a result of this phenomenon; economic development, and regional health initiatives,” said Prime Minister Browne.

The Antigua and Barbuda thanked Prime Minister Douglas for attending the 35th Regular Meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of State and Government, recently convened here in Antigua and Barbuda.

“Antigua and Barbuda is deeply committed to maintaining this strong relationship, and as we strive to safeguard the economic viability of our nations and to ensure the welfare and prosperity for all our people, I pledge that the relationship between our two countries will only grow stronger,” Prime Minister Browne said.

In extending warm greetings in a special congratulatory message, President of Venezuela, His Excellency Nicolas Maduro Moros hoped that the friendship and brotherhood to the St. Kitts and Nevis people will continue the bonds of cooperation and development between both countries towards Latin America and Caribbean integration.

“We invite you to continue working together for the commissioning of the creation of the Petrocaribe Economic Zone (ZEP) that will substantially improve the living conditions of our people, thus conforming into a more secure and prosperous region full of hope for a better future and in a distinct world.

“Commander and President Hugo Chavez asserted on one occasion that ‘our nations are not capable by themselves to transform the international economic order, but if, the power to lay a new foundation and build their own economic relations.’ In Petrocaribe, we have part of those bases referred to by Commander Chavez, becoming stronger for the benefit of the Caribbean brothers.

The People and Government of Venezuela, heir of the Bolivarian thought of the Liberator Simon Bolivar, send a warn message of congratulations to the People of St. Kitts and Nevis, as well as best wishes for success in building a future of equality and dignity for their people,” said President Maduro.
