Blue Bear Campaign needs assistance

ZIZ News — The Blue Bear Campaign initiated by the Department of Probation and Child Protection Services and towards breaking the silence and raising awareness of child sexual abuse, is soliciting the help of businesses and members of the community for the cause.

Director of Probation and Child Protection Services, Debra Matthew says it is not just a cause for her office, but a cause for everyone to get involved in.

She said, “We would like to partner with some businesses to get some billboards up in the community…you see something it stays with you…you see it every day. It has to touch your heart somehow if you continuously see that there is a need for you to be involved, so we are asking the community to be very much in partnership with us.”

Matthew says presently, the aim is to target everyone so that they can help make a difference in a child’s life.

“We’re trying to build it up so that when you see it, you know what it means. A lot of children already know it because we’ve already been to the schools but now we need to really open it up to the communities, parents, businesses,” she said.

The mascot of the Blue Bear Campaign is a Blue Teddy Bear with a white band-aid across the heart.
