C.O.P. Resigns, National Security Minister confirms

CGWalwyn-8(ZIZ News) — Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris has confirmed the rumours that Commissioner of Police Dr. Celvin Walwyn has resigned.

“In relation to the Commissioner of Police, I can say that the Commissioner has written a letter of resignation, that we have accepted this resignation and that the appropriate processes are in place to deal with that eventuality,” the Prime Minister said, adding that “In the meantime, there is no absence of leadership within the St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and all the duties that are to be performed by a commissioner are in fact being executed.”

Dr. Harris revealed that Deputy Commissioner Stafford Liburd is the country’s Acting Commissioner of Police.

He also reminded the media of his government’s commitment to the safety and security of St. Kitts and Nevis’ residents and visitors.

He said, “The security of the state is a cardinal responsibility of the government and one which we intend to treat with the highest degree of seriousness and to give the highest degree of support.”

Dr. Harris added that his administration’s commitment to safety and security was evident as he and his colleagues met, very early, with the high command of the police force and later, with other officers.
