Car on fire at old Basseterre High School grounds

(ZIZ News) — While the National Carnival Queen Pageant was underway at the Sugar Mill, the Fire Department and police rushed to the nearby parking lot at the old Basseterre High School grounds where a vehicle was on fire.

Just before 11 pm fire officers rushed to the parking area on the old BHS field where a gray Mazda RX8 P461, owned by Rodley Lake, was spouting flames from the engine.

According to reports, he parked the vehicle around 10:30 and about 20 minutes later he heard an announcement on the P.A. system that his car was on fire.

The fire officers managed to get the fire under control in a few minutes.

There was no one in the car and it was parked about ten feet away from other vehicles. They did not sustain any damage.

The cause of the fire is still unclear and the police and Fire Department are still investigating.
