Christmas, Walters get Queen’s New Year honours

ST. KITTS, JANUARY 10TH 2011 (CUOPM) – Two nationals of the twin-island Federation have been honoured by Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth the Second in her New Year Honours.

Government House announced that former St. Kitts and Nevis Ambassador and fomer United Nations official, Kittitian Dr. Joseph Christmas was awarded the Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his contribution to the public and diplomatic service and former Permanent Secretary, Nevisian Mrs. Clara Walters, a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for contribution to the public service.

“There are many of our nationals who are already playing valiant roles in moving our nation forward. It is not possible to recognize every individual contribution to the nation-building process but we must from time to time recognize the contribution of the outstanding sons and daughters of our soil,” said Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas in his recent New Year message.

“Dr. Christmas’ record of service in this country is most distinguished and remarkable, and I have no doubt the entire country will join with me in extending congratulations to Dr. Christmas and his family. We must also congratulate Ms. Clara Walters. Her devotion to the public service in the Federation and in Nevis in particular is worthy of great commendation,” said Prime Minister Douglas.
