Church Ground defeats J Warriors

There was only one match played in the tape ball cricket league over the weekend.

On the evening of Saturday 28th December, Church Ground got the better of J Warriors.

Church Ground batted first and scored 112 for 6, helped in no small measure by an over bowled by Shawn Hanley which yielded no fewer than 36 runs which comprised of a number of wides, no balls and several maximums.

Jadel Allen on the other hand had a spectacular night when he picked up 4 wickets in one over.

C. Esdaille had a cameo of 33 runs, mostly from the bowling of the hapless Shawn Hanley and K .Fraser scored 31

The J Warriors could only muster 56 for 5 from their allotted 10 overs Jadel Allen top scoring with 26 and Vern Powell not out at the end with 9.

Kenny Persaud got 3 wickets; Warren Bussue 2 and Randolph Maynard 1

Church Ground winning by 56 runs

Meanwhile, none of the two scheduled games for Sunday 29th December were played.  SDA Jets showed up for their match versus the Bronx Legends but only two of the Bronx men were present by the time the umpires called off the match.

Similarly, Easterns showed up for their match against the Empire team with about 14 players and by the time the umpires called off the game after extending the grace period,, only 5 players for Empire were present.

When the players were leaving the Park at around 8 pm, some more of the Empire players were just arriving.

Some of the players are arguing that the timing of the tournament is inappropriate at a time when a lot of the players are ‘on their spree.’
