Church Leaders Discuss Matters of National Interest with Government

(ZIZ News) – The churches and government have agreed to work together going forward in an effort to give moral and spiritual instruction to students.

According to a report from the St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service, on Monday members of the St. Kitts Christian Council and the St. Kitts Evangelical Association met with Minister of Ecclesiastical Affairs, the Hon. Vance Amory to discuss the greater involvement of the church in the schools.

Amory said spiritual instruction can develop a greater respect for life among young people and teach them values such as compassion and tolerance.

The church leaders were also concerned about the recent incidents in violent crime and supported Prime Minister Harris’ call for a National Week of Prayer, sometime in February.

Other matters discussed included the identification of a national burial site as the Springfield Cemetery was almost consumed.
