CIBC joins in the walk against cancer

Basseterre, 2 October, 2012 — Hundreds of persons joined CIBC FirstCaribbean’s staff in their Walk in support of the Fight Against Cancer, which took place in the Federation on 30th September 2012.

Families, friends and well-wishers joined staff of CIBC FirstCaribbean in St Kitts and on Nevis as they took to the streets in a Health Walk to show their support for the Fight Against Cancer. The purpose of the Walk was to increase awareness of the disease, raise funds for cancer care, treatment and research, show support for cancer survivors, and to remember those who had passed.

This event builds on the 16 years during which the bank’s parent company, CIBC, has been at the forefront of supporting research to find a cure for cancer, through its title sponsorship of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s CIBC Run for the Cure. This year’s event in the Caribbean had been organized through the Caribbean as an activity for its staff, their friends and family, with plans to partner with organizations supporting those affected by cancer to open the event to the public from 2013.

Country Manager, Ladesa James, thanked participants for their support and said “this event held much meaning for CIBC FirstCaribbean. The personal involvement of staff demonstrates that CIBC FirstCaribbean’s giving goes beyond making a donation. It demonstrates that CIBC FirstCaribbean takes its corporate social responsibility seriously and is here For What Matters.”

CIBC FirstCaribbean employees, friends and family in the Caribbean joined more than 13,000 employees, family and friends of Team CIBC in 60 different Run sites across Canada – who took part in Canada’s CIBC Run for the Cure, uniting employees of the CIBC group of companies in a common cause.
