Commissioner tells staff and command class, “you are the future leadership”
(RSCNPF) – Training began today (Jun 06) for a class of twenty-four (24) law enforcement, public safety and military officers from across the region attending the Regional Security System Training Institute’s “Staff and Command Course” here in St. Kitts and Nevis.
The officers represent Police Forces and other National Security Agencies including Customs and Excise Department personnel from within the (RSS) member countries.
The “Staff and Command Course” is a six (6) week course designed to prepare regional national security personnel for leadership roles in RSS Task Force operations or duties in the Joint Staff Headquarters. The course is also designed to prepare Police Officers to perform staff functions of a general nature that are appropriate to their ranks and to provide the foundation for their subsequent professional development.
According to the manager of the RSS Training Institute, Supt. Glen Paul,“ the objectives of the course includes the raising of strategic awareness for the region amongst the participants, helps participants to develop operational command skills, to think logically, make decisions and communicate effectively.” He added, “participants will also understand and apply the principle techniques and doctrine of joint military and police operations and a better understanding of the Command and Staff work of the RSS Headquarters.”
Commissioner Mr. Ian M. Queeley of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force welcomed the participants to St. Kitts and Nevis and told the officers, “you are here, because within your organizations, they has decided that you have demonstrated those attributes of leadership and management that will be essential for the continued transformation of our various services to meet the law enforcement and citizen safety challenges of today and the future. You are the future leaders of our organizations.”
He added, “the course will help you to self – discover and harness your up-tapped leadership and management ability. It will help you think critically, to embrace problem solving as a daily part of life, it will help you to identify and employ risk management, it will help you to communicate effectively… up, down, and across the organizations…And just as important, it will help you with the continued development of the skills required to be on the part of the team, faced with making the tough decisions, the Command Structure.”
Commissioner Queeley told the officers, “you are in St. Kitts and Nevis for the next six weeks, ..it will be challenging. Embrace it, it is a great opportunity to learn about your partnering agencies and countries, capitalize on it.” He underscored, “it is in this exchange, that we learn of the challenges, the pitfalls, and best practices that each of us have experienced….Learning comes for honest and wholesome exchange. Participate in the sessions.”
On a light note, he shared with the participants that they came at a great time, with the annual St. Kitts Music Festival followed by International cricket in Warner Park being held while they are here.
The class graduates on July 16.
