Courts Local Reading Competition Set To Promote Reading

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 25, 2012 (SKNIS): Courts Ltd., in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, will be holding its annual Local Reading Competition as a way of promoting reading within the primary schools in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The recently launched reading competition is said to benefit the Federation’s children by promoting literacy and creating a fun filled way to encourage reading within the structure of an exciting healthy school’s competition.

Clarice Cotton, Chief Education Officer in the Ministry of Education, explained that she is enthusiastic about the competition because it not only benefits the children but also the Ministry.

Ms. Cotton added that learning to read well is one of the most important skills a child can acquire and is necessary for a happy, productive and successful life.

Over the next few weeks, competitions will be taking place at various schools and will culminate with the finals on October 10. The winner of the competition will go on to represent the Federation at the Courts OECS Reading Competition in Dominica, October 25.
