Defence Force seizes drugs

(ZIZ)– A large quantity of marijuana plants have been removed from the streets of St. Kitts.

While conducting a routine security operation in the Phillips’ Mountain area, members of the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force stumbled onto a marijuana plantation.

In an exclusive interview with ZIZ news, the Force’s Public Affairs Officer, Captain Kayode Sutton, said the plants had a street value of more than $600,000.

“There are about over six thousand plants, ranging from two-foot, that’s from seedlings, to seven feet in height and an estimated street value of about over EC$650,000 right there. This finding was in the Phillips’ Mountain area,” Captain Sutton explained adding that the Phillips’ area continues to be a troubling area for the Defence Force.

“Again, you know it is not surprising that we come across this plantation of marijuana in the Phillips’ area. Phillips’ area has been a troubled area over a couple of years and we continue to patrol those areas. We conduct training in Phillips’ hills and people are still so bold to want to plant marijuana in those areas.”

Captain Sutton added that the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force remains resolute in its approach to eradicating illegal drugs from the Federation.

“It doesn’t matter where it is planted, the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force is committed and will remain in our resolution that we will find all these illegal cultivation of drugs where ever they are. It’s just a matter of time before we get there,” he explained.

Captain Sutton also said it was unfortunate that no one had been held in connection with the discovery.
