Diabetes Association Forum

(ZIZ News) – The St. Kitts Diabetes Association is gearing up to host another general meeting in the form of a forum to educate interested persons on the effects of diabetes.

Speaking with ZIZ News, Public Relations Officer of the St. Kitts Diabetes Association, Dr. Reginald O’Loughlin, said the forum will focus on diabetes and the eye.

He said it will be informative with a specialist available to relay information and answer questions.

“We hope to address the topic diabetes and the eye and many people in the world of diabetes and in the world in general do hear about blindness associated with diabetes, they hear about cataracts, they hear about retinopathy, and those fancy terms will be cleared up,” he said.

He also noted that “Light will be shed on them by an ophthalmologist, a Kittitian ophthalmologist, who will be present to speak to the topic and who will be able to answer questions. Our focus, our attention will be geared towards explaining and clarifying all of the issues in relation to the eye; that vital organ which we so importantly need to be able to move from place to place.”

According to Dr. O’Loughlin, island-wide transportation will be available for anyone who wants to attend.

“We are asking for diabetics and those interested in attending to be at your health centre in your district starting at Old Road at 2pm going via Old Road, Dieppe Bay coming around through Molineux and Cayon and once you are there you will be brought to the spot, to the Old Girls School where we will entertain you and educate you on the topic “Diabetes and the Eye,” he said.

The St. Kitts Diabetes Association’s “Diabetes and the Eye” forum will take place on Sunday February 28th at the St. Georges Anglican Church Hall at Victoria Road at 3pm.
