The inaugural ceremony of the OECS Media Network on Health organized event will be held on Saturday August 31st at the Grenada Trade Centre.

It is expected that Maher, Walters and Hoyte copped top awards while their respective companies along with Huggins Automotive were also named as winners. The winners are from Barbados, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Maarten, St. Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia and Jamaica.

The OECS Media Network on Health is a non-government media related organization which was established in 2008 geared at aggressively pursuing and pushing health journalism. However, the organization said that since its formation it has recognized that the contributions of a number of companies and individuals have been significant and enormous, thus the need for the awards. They noted that the awards will also be presented in recognition of the tremendous and yeoman service made by two of the organization’s stalwarts in Dr. Gina Watson who was the former Barbados and OECS Pan American Health Organization’s (PAHO) Representative and former Deputy Secretary General of CARICOM, Dr. Edward Greene.

“The contribution being made by some companies and individuals are certainly worthwhile of recognition and while the perception by many is that the media only reports on negative events and issues OECSMNH seeks to do otherwise. We are an organization that seeks to increase health reporting among our colleagues within the OECS but also we also seek to acknowledge the contributions being made by corporate companies and individuals thus the awards,” a statement from the organization said.

The statement noted that they intend to make the awards an annual event stressing that hosting it alongside the Jennifer Jones Barbados and OECS HealthMedia Awards is ideal, considering that it seeks to recognize excellence in heath journalism.

“We intend to host both events together and yes we intend to make beautiful Grenada the home of the awards. However we must stress that while the event is a Jennifer Jones Media Awards, these corporate companies and individuals awards will be known as the Prime Minister Regional Media Corporate Recognitions Awards,” the statement added.

The event will be held under the theme; acknowledging the enormous contributions made by corporate companies and individuals. A number of senior government and private sector officials are expected to attend a red carpet event as part of the function, which will be streamed live to some 26 countries.

Two regional media stalwarts are expected to host the event. The two media practitioners are well-respected broadcast journalists known for their reputation of emceeing top regional events.

While the names of the respective awards have not been released as yet it was noted that the awardees will be honoured for their sterling, significant, continuous, unselfish and enormous contributions and work in the corporate business sector.
