Digicel Partners with Project Viola

ZIZ News — Telecommunications Company, Digicel, is partnering with the Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Development to help make the lives of teenage mothers a whole lot easier.

Digicel’s Marketing Manager, Marsha Chatterjee said they have partnered with the Ministry for a special Mother’s Day promotion.

“For the entire month of May, Digicel’s customers will be able to purchase three particular smart phones at discounted rate. And that’s not it; part proceeds of each handset sold will go towards Project Viola,” she said.

Project Viola is a support programme formed by the Department of Gender Affairs in 1997 for teen mothers attending public schools.

Chatterjee explained why they chose to assist this particular project.

“Teenage moms are often ostracized for having babies while in school and often are not able to return to school but with Digicel’s contribution and partnership this month, we certainly hope that our very small contribution will somehow assist some teenage moms in continuing their education or perhaps even to assist with the daycare cost while they are in school studying,” she noted.

To assist Project Viola, Digicel customers can purchase one of three Blackberry handsets; the Blackberry Q10, the Blackberry Curse 9320 and the Blackberry Curve 9720.
