Dominican Republic switches diplomatic relations from Taiwan to China
In an apparent resumption of the so-called dollar diplomacy pursued by both China and Taiwan in recent years, the Dominican Republic announced on Tuesday it had severed ties with Taiwan and established diplomatic relations with China, after being offered a US$3.1 billion package of investments and loans.
The package includes infrastructure investment and a natural gas power plant.
