Dr. William Connor hosts Professional Day

(ZIZ News) — Teachers and ancillary members of the Dr. William Connor Primary School participated in a Professional Day in another thrust in the school’s educational advancement.

Principal of the school Valencia Syder said the school’s hosting of the professional workshop is in keeping with the ministry’s aim of transforming and restructuring schools.

She said, “Every proposal that is put out by The Ministry of Education to reform, restructure, or transform schools, emphasize professional development as a primary vehicle in efforts for much needed change. Therefore it is necessary to provide these opportunities to reflect, re-evaluate and strategise. Professional development supports teachers’ development both as individuals and as educators.”

Minister of Education Hon. Shawn Richards urged the participating teachers to embrace the advancements that are taking place in the world, and use them to educate students.

“Education has changed and we must deliver the education in such a way to reflect the changes. When the students go out into the world of work, they are going to be expected to know these things and how to operate these things and we have to prepare them as teachers,” he said.

Also present at the opening ceremony of the Dr. William Connor’s Professional Day was, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education William Vincent Hodge and the school’s education officer Mrs. Emilita Warner Paul.

The professional day was guided by the theme: “Changing the Face of Education Through Preparation and Collaboration”.
