Fans show solidarity with ZIZ Radio at the official launch of 50th Anniversary celebrations

ZIZ News…Oct 30, 2010 – Activities marking the 50th Anniversary of ZIZ Radio got off to a great start on Friday with fans showing their solidarity with the staff during a launch at Independence Square.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of ZIZ Broadcasting Corporation Mr. R A Peter Jenkins gave a brief history and background of this long standing National Institution and the contribution it has made and continue to make in the development of St. Kitts and Nevis.

The programme for the launch also included vocal renditions by Charlie Miller a past participant in the ZIZ Kittitian Superstar, Goldfinger a calypsonian in his own right as well as a rendition on the Steelpan and a poem rendered by Rastafarian Eli X.

A number of ZIZ fans were able to win a bag of goodies after answering questions in relation to ZIZ Radio and its rich history.

The crowd was kept in a festive mood by ZIZ personalities, Jason Davis and Kinny “Kupid” James while the afternoon’s event was brought to a close by the Deputy Chair of the 50th Anniversary Committee Mr. Vere Galloway who delivered the vote of thanks.

The next event to mark the early start to the celebrations will be an official press conference at NEMA where the rules and regulations guiding the various competitions will be disclosed by a panel selected to oversee the calypso competition, song competition, essay and poster competitions.

ZIZ Radio will be fifty years old on March 5, 2011 when the celebrations will reach a high point with a banquet and awards ceremony.
