Government to assist CARICOM Nationals

CARICOMLogoABasseterre, St. Kitts (ZIZ) — CARICOM Nationals living in the federation will soon be on the beneficial end of Government assistance.

Prime Minister the Honorable Dr Denzil Douglas referred to a recent landmark case by the Caribbean Court of Justice pertaining to immigration matters within the Caribbean Community, (CARICOM).

He said CARICOM Nationals, particularly Guyanese and Jamaicans, living amongst us, they by virtue of that particular judgment of the CCJ have certain rights.

Prime Minister Douglas added those CARICOM Nationals who have concerns especially after the amendment to legislation and concerns as to what their rights are under the new legislation and now with the new ruling that came out of the CCJ, the government would have, in the relevant department, a desk and an officer assigned to deal with these matters specifically.

On Tuesday morning Dr Douglas said he had a meeting with the attorney general to look at the implications of this particular judgment handed down by the CCJ with regards to the immigration and free movement of CARICOM Nationals.
