Grand 10 K Run As Part Of Independence 30

Sports Page — Thursday 29th August 2013 — President of the Nevis Athletic Association Lester Blackett, revealed on Wednesday 28thAugust that one of the big sporting attractions for the Independence 30 celebrations, will be a 10 k run which is open to interested persons—no matter their age.

The event is a collaborative effort between The NAAA and the Department of Youth and Sports and involves three basic categories for both Males and females;

• Young—under 18
• Middle aged—under 30
• Veterans—over 30

The run is expected to commence in the vicinity of the Arthur Evelyn Tourism Authority Building in Charlestown and will proceed either straight down the main road or along the Samuel Hunkins Drive, as eventually determined by the Police. The turnaround point is at Cotton Ground.

Blackett is urging everyone from babies in their prams to our beloved seniors to participate at their own pace, whether walk or run and go to a distance that is comfortable to them.

‘Be a fitness hero on heroes’ day,’ he said.

Registration is now open and can be completed free of cost at the Department of Youth and Sports.

Attractive trophies can be won by the winners in both male and female categories and special awards will be given to the youngest and oldest finishers.

Blackettt further indicated that the event is open to residents and visitors alike.
