Greater oversight and higher level of supervision needed, says Minister Condor

ST. KITTS, APRIL 21, 2010 (CUOPM) – Minister of National Security, Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Sam Condor, has stressed the need for even greater oversight and a higher level of supervision on the island of Nevis.

Monday’s Cabinet meeting, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, approved Minister Condor’s general approach in this regard.

Prime Minister re-emphasised the need to fully implement the National Security strategy as outlined by the Minister Condor at the previous meeting of the Cabinet.

Deputy Prime Minister Condor gave an undertaking to work on a speedy implementation of his plans and to provide progress reports on an ongoing basis.

According to the Post Cabinet Brief, Minister Condor gave an update of what had transpired over the previous week, in particular, along the lines of the three prongs of his immediate approach in dealing with the critical matter of national security.

In respect of the restructuring of the crime fighting units to improve synergy and achieve greater overall effectiveness, Minister Condor cited the need for a closer collaborative relationship between the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force, so that critical loopholes exploited by criminals can be closed.

Minister Condor outlined his broad approach towards the re-organisation of the human resources in both branches of the security forces.
