ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, 6 JULY, 2011 – Grenada’s Prime Minister, Hon. Tillman Thomas, took time from the CARICOM Heads of Government Summit in St. Kitts last weekend to show his support for the Grenada Under 23 team which participated in the OECS/ECCB Netball Tournament.

The Prime Minister accompanied by Foreign Minister Hon. Karl Hood, on Saturday visited the Grenada team at the Pam Tyson Complex at Warner Park, Basseterre.

“It was a pleasure to meet with the team. I wished them well in the tournament and look forward to another success for Grenada,” Prime Minister Thomas said Wednesday, noting that Grenada is defending the title they won in 2010.

However that was not to be as Team St. Kitts walked away with the title following an encounter where the scores were tied 40-40 at the end of regulation time, thus they been crowned the 2011 under 23 ECCB Netball queens.

The tournament, one of the community outreach programmes of the East Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), officially started on Saturday and ended on Wednesday evening with the two top teams in the tournament battling for netball supremacy.

According to the ECCB, the sponsorship of the championship is recognition of the importance of sports to development and the strengthening of the integration process.
