Hamilton ton sets up exciting final day
Basseterre, St Kitts — A sensational century from Jahmar Hamilton has set up an intriguing final day at Warner Park in Leewards’ Round 1, Regional 4-Day match against the Combined Campuses & Colleges.
Leewards started Day 3 in a uncertain position with Hamilton and Tonito Willett both at the crease in a stand worth 50 runs. However, they only led by 97 runs then, and needed the pair to continue, batting 135/5 in their second innings.
Both continued solidly, giving the hosts a good start to Day 3. However, when on 41, the CCC got the breakthrough, dismissing Willett. His patient knock, entailing 133 balls and seven boundaries came to an end.
But at the other end, Hamilton continued on strongly. He brought up his century but was out soon after for 119. He batted all of 295 balls for his second First Class century. His knock included twelve boundaries.
But just when it looked like the College students were well on their way to dismissing the Leewards, tailender, Gavin Tonge spoiled the party, giving the home side some crucial late runs. Tonge made 31 runs from just 25 balls, hitting five fours and a six.
Eventually, the Leewards were bowled out for 299, setting the CCC 262 runs to win. Off-spinner, Ryan Austin, picked up 3-79 while Raymon Reifer, Akeem Dewar and Steven Jacobs all had two wickets each.
The CCC got off to a quick start in their chase but also lost quick wickets. Tonge led the damage with the ball as he finished the day with 3-25. Raymon Reifer was a big scalp for the hosts as he was out after scoring a patient 22.
Another crucial partnership is currently at the crease with Chadwick Walton and CCC captain, Jacobs both at the crease. Walton, mainly aggressive, was unbeaten on 36 at stumps while Jacobs was not out on 20.
The CCC still need 152 runs to win on the last day with six wickets in hand. At stumps on Day 3, the visitors were 110/4. The fourth and final day starts at 10am Eastern Caribbean Time tomorrow.
