“Heart of 7 Fitness Trail” hailed as an excellent initiative

Basseterre, St. Kitts — Emphasing that the wealth of a nation is the health its people, Dr. Vance Gilbert said the fitness of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and especially those who live in the area from Ottleys to Belle Vue “is emotional and physical.”

He was at the time speaking at the official opening of the Heart of Fitness Trail – which promotes healthy lifestyle one step at a time.

“So it is our hope that with this initiative, we can do our part in encouraging good physical health in the people and for the people residing in these areas. So I want to challenge each and every one of you to join the Heart of 7 Fitness Club. Do the 7-7 which is 7 miles every 7 days don’t forget that the Heart of 7 Fitness Club – a goal is to do the 7-7 – 7 miles every 7 days,” said Dr. Gilbert, the governing St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party candidate for St. Christopher 7 in the 2015 General Elections.

The initiative has been welcomed by Minister of Sports and Youth Empowerment, the Hon. Glenn Phillip who has congratulated Dr. Gilbert for creating the health trial.

“I think it is really necessary because it provides persons with an alternative to walking in the road,” he said.
Peter Russell, the Chief Operations Officer for the Caribbean Premier League, who accompanied Mr. Phillip to the ceremony, described it as a great initiative.

“This is what we notice in terms of cricket events that we promise the natural athleticism of the Caribbean people and so what is important that young kids are taught how to stretch and how to develop in terms of training and health, because its important in terms of being able to play sports at the top level. So these sources of initiatives are fantastic obviously for St. Kitts and Nevis. It is also great for us in terms of us being a cricket league to see young people getting involved. It is fantastic,” said Russell.

Raj Wallia of Prahba Limited, who too was involved in the Caribbean Premier League, is also of the view that the Heart of Fitness Trail is an excellent initiative.

“I see lots of young people here very enthusiastic and I think it should have get lots of people looking healthy and look forward to a good future,” said Wallia, who praised Dr. Gilbert for “donating his time and his skills.”

“It is a great initiative that is put forward. I wish him good luck and all the best,” said Wallia.
