Improving Healthcare Delivery in St. Kitts and Nevis

(ZIZ News) – Minister of Health, the Hon. Eugene Hamilton has promised to take steps to improve the healthcare sector, specifically the speed at which care is given at hospitals.

According to Minister Hamilton, he has already held meetings to discuss ways to speed up hospital services.

He said, “There is that truth or perception that too much time is taken before services are delivered at some of our institutions. So we’ve had a discussion with the authorities to see how we can deliver the services to our people with minimal delay.”

Minister Hamilton said he has also met with a former Permanent Secretary to look at setting up a committee responsible for developing comprehensive healthcare insurance for residents.

He suggested a public-private sector partnership to move that project forward.

“We have no intention of depriving the private sector of its natural business that is being conducting now. So that if we have to find a way to incentivize the private sector to ensure that all of its employees are insured then we will do that,” Minister Hamilton stated.
