Increased reliability of electricity service following planned 10-hour outage

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, APRIL 30TH 2012 (CUOPM) – Sunday’s 10-hour island-wide power outage will result in increased reliability of service ahead of the upcoming hurricane season.

The St. Kitts Electricity Company Limited (SKELEC) said electricity was restored to all of its customers following the outage to undertake wide-scale inspection and repairs to its generation and distribution system.

SKELEC’s Chief Technical Officer, Mr. John Krupski told the media on Sunday afternoon that, company specialists report that all objectives of Sunday’s exercise have been met.

“It should result with increased reliability of the generating plant ahead of this year’s upcoming hurricane season. We wish to express our gratitude to all consumers for their patience in regard to Sunday’s 10-hour planned outage,” said Krupski.

He further stated, “restoration of electricity to the various feeders around the island commenced at 2:05pm and full restoration was achieved by 3:30pm.”

SKELEC said it regrets any inconvenience resulting from the 10-hour interruption.
