Job placement for PEP trainees from Newtown Community Center continues apace

(SKNIS): The placement of PEP (People Employment Programme) trainees, who were housed at the Newtown Community Center continues swiftly, with 35 of the 59 persons already placed in work establishments.

Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Mr. Osbert DeSuza, revealed today that 21 of the 38 trainees in Cosmetology have been assigned to cosmetology businesses; all 8 trainees in the Early Childhood Development have been placed at government early childhood training centers; 4 persons of 8 in Computer Graphics have been assigned; and two out of 5 persons in Office Administration have also been placed in institutions of work.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank all the businesses and government institutions that cooperated with us to ensure the trainees had a place where they can go and put their learning from their stint at the New Town Community Center into operation,” Mr. DeSuza said.

On September 01, after three years on the PEP, all trainees based at the Newtown Community Center were informed that they will finally be assigned where their skills can be better utilized within the workforce. The trainees were also informed that they will continue to receive their stipends.

The decision was made after an extensive evaluation of the programme at the Newtown Community Center had been completed.
