Kittitian in Third Cabinet of St. Maarten’s Prime Minister

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JUNE 20TH 2013 (CUOPM) – A Kittitian has been sworn in as a member of the new Cabinet of the Government of St. Maarten’s Prime Minister, the Hon. Sarah Wescott-Williams.

Mrs. Patricia D. Lourens-Phillip took the oath of office last Friday as Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports.

Mrs. Patricia Lourens is the daughter of Mrs. Veronica Phillip, educator and former principal of the Maurice Hillier Memorial Junior School and the late Major St. Clair Philip, who served in the Volunteer Unit of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force and also as Accountant General.

The oath of office was administered by St. Maarten’s Governor, His Excellency Eugene Holiday, a son of a Kittitian mother.

The St. Maarten Prime Minister the Hon. Sarah Wescott-Williams also has relatives in St. Kitts.

Patricia Lourens-Phillips is the former Division head, Division for Educational Research, Planning & Innovations in the Government of St. Maarten and former principal at the Foundation for Academic & Vocational Education.

She was educated at the University of London where she earned the Diploma in Education and Education Management and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), in Economics, Sociology & History with Second Class Honours at the University of the West Indies.
