Local Red Cross transfers monies to earthquake-stricken Haiti

ZIZ News…February 16, 2010 – Monday 15th February was a very significant day for the local St. Kitts-Nevis Red Cross Society because it marked the date on which the first transfer of monies collected as a result of a drive by the Society, was wire-transfered to the International Red Cross.

Dr. Reginald O’Loughlin, President of the Society and the Branch Director for St. Kitts did the necessary paper-work at the local branch of RBTT bank, sending 41,000$ US to the International Federation of the Red Cross designated account that was set up in the aftermath of the major earthquake that occurred there on Tuesday 12th January, 2010.

In response to an appeal launched by the local Red Cross on the 14th January, numerous individuals and a variety of organisations contributed to by way of donations to an account set up at the RBTT bank here in the Federation. The account number for the exercise, which is still open for further contributions, is #2604000000014247 at the above-mentioned bank.

The Local Red Cross Society would like to express, on behalf of the eventual recipients of this contribution, the Haitian people, sincere appreciation to all those groups, organisations and individuals who participated in this venture despite existing economic challenges worldwide.

The Red Cross Society has received a registration number 1002087 which can be used for effective follow-up of their contribution.
