Male students to be the focus for more workshops

EducationFilePhotoA(SKNIS) The Ministry of Education will be hosting a series of workshops that is geared towards the empowerment of male students.

The October 30 to November 1 workshops will focus on strategies to increase student engagement in school and class, academic achievement of students, the fostering of self-esteem and the development of pro-social behaviour among students.

Principals and teachers in Single Sex Classrooms and Education Officers are targeted for the October 30 session. The meeting will place emphasis on strategies for student engagement in schools, boys in particular.

The October 31 session for male students in the Single Sex Pilot Schools-Beach Allen, St. Pauls and Cayon Primary; will spotlight the “Warrior Method” which is a program for rearing healthy black males.

There will also be a session for parents in the evening at the Ocean Terrace Inn (OTI) from 5:30- 7:30p.m, which will look at the education and raising of boys and will incorporate aspects of the Warrior Method.

Crisis intervention will be the primary focus for the November 1 session for guidance counsellors from both St. Kitts and Nevis.

Dr. Jeff Menzise and Dr. Raymond Winbush, creator of the Warrior Method, will facilitate the three day event.

The consultants facilitated these workshops in Nevis from October 28 to 29, 2013.
