Minister Hamilton promises Affordable Housing

EugeneHamilton-5(ZIZ News) — Minister responsible for Human Settlement and Land, the Hon. Eugene Hamilton says the government will continue to provide affordable housing for residents.

He specifically referred to the National Housing Corporation’s ongoing project to build affordable homes in each constituency and promised that this programme will continue.

“There will be a number of houses that will be available to for distribution to those who are most needy and we intend to continue the programme over the next five years so that those who are in line will also be satisfied with houses of their choice,” he said.

Minister Hamilton also noted that a housing programme for former sugar workers seems to have been abandoned and the incomplete homes in St. Peters are falling apart.

“There are at least five or six of those houses; they were some steel-framed houses that have been overgrown by weeds and all kinds of things and in fact some of the ceiling has been coming loose and really look abandoned,” he said.

He said the government has requested assistance from Venezuelan officials to repair those buildings and construct 80 more houses under that initiative.
