More Seniors signed up for Grand Event

Sports Page — The Seniors’ Division at the Department of Social Services on Nevis, is reporting an increase in the number of individuals who have signed up for the Grand Seniors’ fun and action sports meet to be hosted by that division in collaboration with the Mental Health Unit, on Thursday 15th October.

The meet which will be held at the ET Willet Park, will see the seniors from age 62 and upwards, feature in some exciting athletic events which will include the 40 meters ‘dash’; walking races; relays; tug of war; thread the needle; lime and spoon and many more.

The increase in registration came about due to a new initiative being implemented by the Nevis Island Administration, through the Ministry of Social Development. That initiative involves a drastic reduction in bus fares for eligible seniors, in conjunction with the Bus Association of Nevis.

During the course of this week, the employees at the Inland Revenue Department have graciously accommodated the qualifying seniors in taking their photos for a required ID. At the same time, employees at the Seniors’ Division used the opportunity to increase the registered participants for the upcoming meet.

The Seniors who will be participating in the event are also committed to receiving the ‘green light’ from their respective doctors to indicate whether or not they are able to be involved in certain activities.

Meanwhile, the seniors are set to continue their training and practice exercises on Thursday 24th September at the ET Willet Park, under the supervision of National Trainer, Masefield Nisbett.
