An international team of archaeologists is presently on Nevis undertaking investigations at the Coconut Walk, St James. This team will be here until August 4, 2010.

Under the direction of Drs Scott Fitzpatrick (US), Quetta Kaye (UK) and Michiel Kappers (The Netherlands), and in cooperation with the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society, the international team of university students and expert analysts, will concentrate on expanding the excavations undertaken at Coconut Walk, St. James by the BBC’s “Time Team” in 1998, but will also be surveying other coastal areas.

A VIP and public Open Day with illustrated slide show, is being planned for 3:00pm on Saturday, 24th July, at the Alexander Hamilton Museum, Charlestown, but in the meanwhile the archaeologists welcome visitors to see the excavation work in progress at Coconut Walk, St. James before noon during weekdays – weather permitting.

The finds from the site will be processed weekday afternoons between 3-6 pm on the grounds of the Hurricane Cove Bungalows. All material excavated by the team will be retained by the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society to be available for future study when required.
