Nevis defeats Montserrat

Boatswain

ZIZ Sports…June 4 2012 — Despite a worrying partnership between Boatswain and Captain of the Montserrat team, Mc Pherson Wade, Nevis prevailed in their first encounter of the Leeward Islands 2012 cricket season.

A superb century by Tonito Willet on Friday and a well played half a ton by Adelvin Phillip led Nevis to a competitive 328 in their first innings. Montserratian speedster Boatswain woke up the track at the ET Willet Park with sustained pace and bounce to pick up his first ever five fer.

Montserrat in response got to 213 on the back of a defiant century by Deno Baker. Nevis then managed 188 for 8 declared with Adelvin Phillip scoring another half a ton and thereby giving Montserrat a nigh impossible victory target of 304 in just about half of a day. Montserrat despite the partnership aforementioned wilted to 187 all out with Boatswain swinging his way to his highest individual score in any form of the game of 71. Nevis won by 127 runs.
