Nevis Goes Franchise

There is great news for cricket and cricket lovers on Nevis. Cricket chief on the island, Keith “Dis and Dat” Scarborough on Monday 28th April sought to give an update on his Association’s stewardship and made some very interesting revelations.

He noted that the finals of the ongoing second division competition will be played this coming Thursday 1st of May.

The two competing teams are the two teams which emerged with the most points from the preliminary rounds of matches.

They are the Nevis team packed Four Seasons Resort and the Charlestown Secondary School which packs a bunch of promising players.

Scarborough also revealed that the selectors have identified a squad of players who will be separated into three teams and will play in a local T-20 franchise with each team using a unique name as is the case in the IPL and the CPL and with each team having individual sponsors and management and coaching teams etc.

This in light of the upcoming Leeward Islands T-20 tournament set for the end of May into early June.  After the local franchise tournament, the Nevis team for the Leeward Islands tournament will be selected.

The three captains named for the franchise teams are: Kieran Powell; Tonito Willet and Javia Liburd. Each team will comprise of 16 players.

The league will start on Saturday 10th May and games will be played with two games on Saturdays and two on Sundays. The tournament will run for two weeks.

Immediately after the T-20 series, the first division 50 overs series sponsored by the Development Bank of St.Kitts and Nevis, will be played. Later in the year, the first division two day tournament will also be held.

In July, during the grand slate of Culturama activities, a St.Kitts versus Nevis T-20 match will be played and on August 2nd  a Nevis local masters team will engage an overseas based Nevis masters team which will comprise of a number of individuals who previously represented the Nevis senior team but now reside overseas.

According to Scarborough, there is a lot of excitement in store for the cricket lovers on the island.
