New Health and Family Life Plan

Minister Carty

Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 1, 2012 – Minister of Education, the Hon. Nigel Carty says the ministry will be rolling out a new Health and Family Life plan for the school curriculum.

Minister Carty said the new plan will cover sexual responsibility and other tops surrounding morals and values.

“This curriculum will be rolled out in the upcoming school year and… it deals with all of the issues which we feel young people are encountering on a daily basis such as STDs, drugs, gangs and so forth.” he said.

He feels this curriculum is needed to make a difference in the lives of teenagers and help them become productive, well-adjusted adults.

Minister Carty stated, “We feel that this is a powerful tool to help to change the lives of young people. It is something to put into our education system which we think can make a difference in the lives of so many young people by helping them to be more responsible and more aware by teaching them methods and techniques of self-protection and self-defense, in terms of knowing the dos and don’ts as they traverse life, particularly during their teenage years.”

The curriculum will be introduced in the high schools on St. Kitts.
