OAS Selected Candidates for Scholarships at the Graduate and Undergraduate Levels for the Academic Year 2014-2015
Basseterre — The Organization of American States (OAS) through its Department of Human Development, Education and Employment (DHDEE) has selected three (3) Nationals of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis to receive OAS Scholarships awards at the undergraduate and graduate levels for the 2014-2015 Academic Year. In addition, the organization has announced the opening of its scholarship application process for the 2015-2016 Academic Year with immediate effect. Isalean Felicitee Ciara Phillip was selected to receive the Special Caribbean Fellowships (SPECAF) for undergraduate studies to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Government, at the Saint Mary’s University, in Nova Scotia, Canada. Beverley Laverne Supersaad was selected to pursue a Master’s Degree in Teacher Education at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus Barbados, or at a University in the United States that remains to be determined. Doldria Valdena Penny was also selected to pursue a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Development, at the University of the West Indies at campuses in Barbados or Jamaica.
Each scholarship will be awarded for an initial period of one academic year and may be renewed subsequently for up to one additional academic year. In this regard, a maximum of US$30,000 will be made available for each selected candidate and will be distributed to cover administrative costs, tuition, lab fees, books, a monthly stipend, medical insurance and airfare to and from the place of study, if applicable.
OAS Representative in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis Mr. Starret Greene said that his organization remained committed to supporting the academic aspirations of the citizens of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. The OAS Diplomat emphasized that strengthening the country’s human resources, through education and training was indispensable for achieving sustainable development.
Competitive selections sponsored by the OAS are guided by the OAS’ Charter that supports the fundamental rights of the individual without distinction to race, nationality, creed or sex.
