Officials Honour Carnival Icons

ZIZ News — The carnival committee and the Department Of Culture have honoured five persons for their continuous contribution to carnival.

During the prize-giving ceremony on Saturday evening the Department Of Culture honoured Dave Rubaine better known as “The Mansion Bull” and 2013 Carnival Grand Marshall Cyril Webster Pringle for their service.

The carnival committee also presented plaques to Devon Liburd better known as “Lord Kut” for forty years in the calypso arena, Melvin “Mellie” Hewlett for his contribution to steel pan music, and Cynthia Hull for her work with the street activities.

The winners, runners up and participants in the carnival shows and street events also received their prizes.

Culture minister the Hon Marcella Liburd congratulated the committee on a job well done and praised one of the new initiatives, the Bar Crawl.

The carnival committee says Sugar Mas 43 will run from Nov 21 2014 to Jan 4, 2015.
