One in custody assisting with investigations of gun and ammunition find

ZIZ NEWSROOM, BASSETERRE, July 19, 2011 – One person is in police custody in connection with a parcel of gun parts and ammunition that was found in one of the transit sheds at the deep water port.

This comes after customs officers and the police executed two searches in Basseterre on Monday at a commercial property on George Street and a private house on Millionaire Street.

Although one person is in custody no arrests have been made as yet.

In a statement the Customs and Excise Department has thanked members of the public for the information received and they encourage anyone who may have more information about this case to contact the enforcement department at 466 -7227 – the call will be treated with the strictest confidence.

On Thursday customs officers discovered a package in a transit shed containing live rounds, ammunition and gun parts. These included hollow point bullets.
