One worker dies at Fort Tyson Ltd. Construction Site Accident

ZIZ News…Jan 26 2012 – A construction worker was fatally injured on Wednesday in Frigate Bay at the Fort Tyson Ltd. Construction Site.

It took place at around two thirty in the afternoon and according to Construction Director, Sebastian Mottram in a statement to the media “The worker 47-year-old Elias José Benjamin, who was a Site Supervisor with the construction company, Fort Tyson Ltd. was overseeing a lifting operation moving construction material to the top floor of a building.

Mottram said although the correct safety procedures, equipment and lifting plans had been discussed and put in place, it is believed that the load slipped from the lifting straps and fell injuring the supervisor.

Emergency triage procedures were immediately put in place by trained personnel and the ambulance crew responded quickly but were unable to revive him.

The Construction Director said this is a tragic accident which has deeply shocked us all. Our thoughts at this time are for his family and friends. We are closing the site until further notice. I would like to thank the ambulance and emergency services for their professional and immediate response.

He concluded by stating that the family have been notified and our thoughts and prayers are with them at this time.”

The accident scene was visited by Commissioner Celvin ‘CG’ Walwyn, Assistant Commissioner with responsibility for Crime Ian Queeley and a number of investigating officers.
