‘Operation Zero Tolerance’ brings offenders to justice for traffic offences

ZIZ News..Sept 4, 2012—The Traffic Department of the Royal St. Christopher & Nevis Police Force conducted,” Operation Zero Tolerance”, on 3rd September 2012 between 6:45am and 9:00 am in areas of Basseterre, St. Peters, Conaree and Camps.

This resulted in 44 tickets issued for several different offenses. One driver was ticketed for wearing no head gear, 17 for failing to Display Destination Board, 1 for excessive tint, 5 ticketed for failing to comply with Traffic Direction, 2 for Failing to Wear Seat Belt, 1 for obstruction, 3 for Driving with expired licence, 2 for failing to Display Passenger Sign, 2 for Driving off Bus Route, 3 for Driving and use of Cell Phone, 2 for Failing to Stop at Bus Stop and 5 for driving Unlicensed Vehicles.

Meanwhile Davin Liburd of New Road was convicted for Driving without Due Care and Attention committed on 29th August 2011 and was fined $750.00 in one month or confined to one month in prison.

Virgil Gumbs of St. Peters will have to fork up over two thousand dollars or serve a prison term for various traffic offences.

Gumbs was convicted for Willfully Obstructing a Police Officer while in the execution of his duty, Parking in a No Parking Area, Failing to Comply with Traffic Sign, Driving without Due Care and Attention and Driving without Insurance committed on 30th May 2012 at College Street.

He was fined $1500.00 for Willfully Obstructing a Police Officer while in the execution of his duty, to be paid in one month or be confined to one month in prison. He was fined $200.00 each for Parking in a No Parking Area and Failing to Comply with Traffic Sign, to be paid in one month or one month imprisonment. He was also fined $800.00 each for Driving without Due Care and Attention and Driving without Insurance to be paid in one month or one month imprisonment.
