Over two hundred thousand dollars in cash prizes distributed at Carnival prize giving

ZIZ News…Jan. 31, 2011 – Two hundred and fifty thousand dollars in prizes were distributed to winners and participants when the Carnival prize giving ceremony was held last night.

All those who actively contributed to making Sugar Mas 2010/11 a success were rewarded for their efforts at the prize giving ceremony.

The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister Hon Dr Denzil Douglas, Minister with responsibility for Carnival Hon Marcella Liburd and other officials. In his address the Chairman of Carnival Clement Monarch Ogarro congratulated all for their participation and gave the audience a synopsis of the festivities.

Meanwhile, the Hon Marcella Liburd said Carnival is an investment in the people with over two hundred thousand dollars spent in cash prizes. Close to one hundred thousand dollars were spent on calypsonians alone.

Among the top prize winners were the Carnival Queen and King, Iantavian Queely and Pungwa. Pungwa also performed one of his winning songs “Hang Them High”.

Prior to the prize giving ceremony the Small Axe Band took Carnival lovers on a short street jam through Basseterre.
