Parris hits century as Pride trial opens

Bridgetown, Barbados — Opener Shane Parris hit an even century as Omar Phillips’ XI reached 177 for three off 35 overs in reply to a first innings total of 174 all out off 41 overs by Kevin Stoute’s XI at the close of play on the first day of the second Barbados Pride three-day trial match at Kensington Oval today.

Parris batted for 160 minutes, faced 112 balls and struck 17 fours.

Fast bowler Jerome Jones topscored with 49 of 48 balls including eight fours and two sixes at No. 10 to help rescue Stoute’s XI from dire straits at 68 for eight after they won the toss.

Jones and Sulieman Benn added 54 in 7.3 overs for the ninth wicket with Benn scoring 40 off 34 balls with six fours and two sixes.

And Jones and Miguel Cummins (14 not out) put on 52 in eight overs for the last wicket.

Justin Greaves was the leading wicket-taker with four for 18 off nine overs.

Fellow fast bowlers Tino Best and Dario Seale each took two for 28 and off-spinner Ashley Nurse, two for 32.
