People’s Action Movement leadership celebrates with centurion Ina Bass aka Annie David

John England Village, St.Kitts (January 17th 2012):- Ina Theodosia Bass, also known as Annie David of Upper Monkey Hill, is the first of eight children of George David and Floretta Bass. She already outlived six of her siblings and her only child who died in the UK where she resided.

Anne as she is more affectionately called migrated to England in 1954 where she spent eight years before returning to her native St. Kitts and took up vending at the Public Market.

At the age of 100 Annie is still actively doing what she has been doing since 1962; she still goes to the Public Market; purchase from the Dominica and St. Vincent boats and continues to sell as a vendor.

Annie rises early each day before the sun and takes care of her surroundings and cooks before the day gets busy. She says she likes her provisions cooked with their skin on and she does not like her food to be cooked with any grease.

She is a no-nonsense woman, hard-working and energetic says her family who seem proud that Annie is as independent a person at her age as she was in her youth.

Parliamentary Representative the Hon. Eugene Hamilton accompanied by Hon. Shawn Richards, Mr. Lindsay Grant and Mrs. Ethelinda Crossley travelled to Annie’s home on Thursday and met with her and members of her family led by Mrs. Maryline Browne of John England Village.

Hon. Shawn Richards presented a food hamper and fruit basket to the vibrant birthday celebrant while Hon. Eugene Hamilton read and presented a poem inserted in a birthday card. Hamilton is this week beginning activities celebrating the end of his third anniversary as the Representative of Constituency #8 which concludes with a church service on Sunday January 27th at the St. Peter’s Anglican Church.

Annie posed for pictures with the visitors and joined in song and praise as the traditional birthday song was sung.

Annie and her family have enjoyed long life and she is proud to have the honour to see one of her younger brothers at age 93 still strong and healthy.

Family members of Annie have said that she is not afflicted by any diseases such as High Blood Pressure or Diabetes.
