Plans for Digicel Haynes Smith Pageant underway

ZIZ Newsroom…Nov. 24, 2010 – After donating thousands of dollars to community projects this past year the organizers of the Digicel Haynes Smith Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant are gearing up to do it again.

During a press conference at ZIZ studios on Tuesday, executive producer of the pageant, Antonio Maynard said the show is all about bringing youths together in a positive arena.

“The principal objective of this prestigious pageant is to showcase Caribbean culture, and promote regional integration among Caribbean youths, while communicating meaningful social and educational issues through the performing arts. And at the same time, contributing towards community development with the funds raised from the pageant,” he said.

He says over the past year they were able to commit over seven thousand dollars to community based individuals and organizations particularly in the Village area.

Marketing manager for main sponsor, Digicel, Genieve Hanley says her company is proud to be a supporter of the show.

“Nowadays, you hear a lot of negative things about young people and it’s good to see something positive on stage that we can share in a great way. It also brings together people, and I’m referring to the audience, in a great way and this is what we’re about and we’re glad to support such an initiative,” she said.

Digicel presented the pageant committee with a $37,000 cheque.

The 31st Annual Digicel Haynes Smith Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant takes place Thursday 30th December.
