PLP’s Women’s Arm fundraising breakfast at Shoreline Plaza Saturday August 5

(PLP PR Media Inc.) — Shoreline Plaza behind the Old Treasury Building tomorrow Saturday, starting from as early as 6 o’clock in the morning, will be a beehive of activity as the Women’s Arm of the Peoples Labour Party will be hosting a school-drive fundraising breakfast.

“The purpose of the breakfast that we are going to be hosting tomorrow Saturday August 5 is to raise funds,” said Ms Tishanna Norford who is one of the two Women’s Arm Representatives on the PLP National Executive. “At the PLP we believe in putting people first, and holding this breakfast is one of the ways to demonstrate our commitment to the people of this country that we love.”

According to Ms Tishanna Norford it is all systems go as it relates to the hosting of this breakfast. The women who have been entrusted with the running of this event are ready to welcome all not only from Basseterre, but also from other areas on the island to come and enjoy a sumptuous meal while raising funds for the benefit school-going children.

She noted: “It is a national fundraising event that is being spearheaded by the Women’s Arm of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) and is one of the activities that we have as it relates to giving back to the community. The women of the PLP are uniting and it is going to be a national effort. All the constituencies have come together and have donated different items for this breakfast.”

Peoples Labour Party’s National Political Leader, who is also the Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris has already given his blessings having invited members of the general public to come out and share in the breakfast while at the same time raising funds.

While addressing the media on Saturday July 29 at the end of the PLP/PM’s Health Walk, the Prime Minister said: “We want to invite persons, to participate in an August 5th breakfast to be put on by the Peoples Labour Party in Unity. This will be at the Shoreline Plaza by the Old Treasury Building in Basseterre and we will encourage as many people to come out and enjoy a very sumptuous and delicious breakfast.”

The Peoples Labour Party is one of the three parties in the ruling Team Unity Administration. The other two are the People’s Action Movement (PAM), and the Nevis-based Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM).

“We want to give back to the community, and this breakfast will give us the opportunity to do that,” said Ms Tishanna Norford. “When the schools open for the new 2017/2018 academic year, we do not want to have some children reporting to school without any of the supplies they are supposed to have. We will go through the communities to find out who needs a helping hand, and once they are identified the funds raised will be put into proper use.”

The menu will be geared towards the traditional palate. There will be a little of everything according to Ms Norford, but she mentioned bush tea, coffee, salt fish, bacon, eggs, Johnny cake, bacon, mackerel, dumplings, green bananas, green salad and fruit salad as well. There will also be goat water and souse available as the event will be going up to 12:00 noon where some will need more than a breakfast.

Tomorrow’s (Saturday August 5) breakfast will be the second that the Peoples Labour Party would have hosted. The first one was organised by members of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) Branch #7 Women Empowerment Group who held their fundraising breakfast on Saturday June 3 outside Bourryeau Gate in Constituency Number Seven.

Attending that important event where funds were raised to assist parents with graduating students from the four primary schools in the constituency included the PLP National Political Leader Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, and the Deputy National Political Leader Senator the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett.
