PM Addresses United Nations General Assembly

ZIZ News – September 30 2013 — Prime Minister of the federation, the right Honorable Dr Denzil Douglas addressed the 68th session of the united nations general assembly on Friday.

ZIZ’s Nesha David reports Dr. Douglas’ address was guided by the theme “the post 2015 developmental agenda: Setting the Stage.”

The theme, which is a blueprint agreed to by all the world’s countries and all the world’s leading development institutions.

Prime Minister Douglas told world leaders the theme is very relevant and his government has achieved its first MDG, in eradicating extreme poverty.

To emphasize his point Dr Douglas listed the programs put in place to ensure the federation’s citizens move out of poverty.

Dr Douglas says the present economic course will ensure St Kitts-Nevis meet both MDG as well as its own sustainable development goals in the post-2015 development agenda.

The MDG’s range from halving extreme poverty rates to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015.
