PM Douglas discusses financial matters with Jersey officials

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, APRIL 19TH 2011 (CUOPM) – The Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas is on visit to Jersey.

Dr. Douglas, along with the Federation’s High Commissoner to London, His Excellency Kevin Isaac will on Tuesday and Wednesday meet representatives from the government as well as the Jersey Financial Services Commission and Jersey Finance.

Prime Minister Douglas is discussing financial regulation and look at how both jurisdictions are dealing with the global financial downturn.

Also on the agenda for discussion will be inward investment, tourism and agriculture.

Jersey’s Assistant Chief Minister, Sen. the Hon. Freddie Cohen said he is “very much looking forward to welcoming the prime minister and high commissioner.

“We will be delighted if our experience in areas such as tourism, agriculture and financial regulation can assist the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis to develop in these areas.”

Jersey is a British Crown Dependency, off the coast of Normandy, France.

It is the largest and most popular of all the Channel Islands and is a leading tourist destination and financial center.

It is a separate possession of the Crown and is not part of the United Kingdom although the UK is constitutionally responsible for its defence.
